Summary: How Many
Christina Rossetti (1830 – 1894) is one of the few women poets of the Victorian era whose
poetry has stayed popular and relevant even in modern times—perhaps because she
addressed generic themes.
This poem talks about Time, something which can never become dated. It progresses from
one of the smallest divisions, namely, the second and steadily progresses from minutes, to
hours, days, weeks, months, and years to ages. But the speaker says that no one can answer
the last question—How many ages in time? This is because time is endless—it never stops.
