Class 7: Unit- 11B: Courage! Courage! Courage! Edgar Albert Guest (Only For Reading & Discussion)

Courage! Courage! Courage! by Edgar Albert Guest (Only For Reading)

This is an inspirational and motivational poem by Edgar Albert Guest. The speaker says that when one goes through tough and difficult situations and the burden of responsibilities grows heavy, and it becomes tiresome to carry on with in life any longer; one should call on one’s courage and go ahead in life.

It is not always possible to experience victory or success at the very first always go or all the time. Every individual must deal with setbacks and failures at different points of time. During these difficult times, it is essential for the person to handle the situation with grace and dignity by taking everything in their stride. Just how they accept their gains and profits with dignity, they should embrace their losses and failure. Whining or complaining about the situation will not yield any desirable result. Courage and resilience are the need of the hour and therefore is essential for people to not fail as human beings, even though, they may have been unsuccessful in their work.

When darkness and uncertainty loom large over a person’s life, they may lose all hope and strength to deal with the crisis. However, it is essential for the person to face the situation and deal with it on their own by putting things into perspective. Just as every individual savours the joys and happiness of life, they should also battle the gruelling and unfortunate circumstances that life throws at them for it is crucial to accept the ups and downs of life. The real test of one’s courage takes place during the hours when setbacks and misfortunes hit them.

The course of a struggle can never be changed by cursing or regretting. Even if one whimpers and whines through it, one has to see its end. The person who fights through the struggles ultimately gets rewarded with victory for all the pains they have endured. Therefore, it is essential to take all the setbacks as a part of the Almighty’s plan of creating greater and ideal human beings out of every one—for struggle and hardships are not only impediments, but also valuable experiences that contribute to personal growth.
