 Focus Points for Literature Revision (NCERT)

The students need to revise the following for the preparation of the literature section.

 1.     Synopsis and title justification (of every story/poem/ play)

2.     Central idea and themes

3.     Character sketches

4.     Poetic devices

5.     Message- moral conveyed

 Long questions  and  answers (Clue Line Questions)

Answer these questions in about 100- 120 words. (6 marks)

 1.'Mrs. Pearson's generous and submissive nature resulted in her misery.' Discuss this statement with reference to the play Mother's Day by vividly describing the instances. Comment on the central idea of the play.

 2. "Birth is a true depiction of the modern society where doctors make efforts to save humanity.' Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Elucidate the statement by explaining the significant incidents of the story. Clearly highlight the central idea projected in the story.

 3. 'The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse is a story that depicts that the new generation is not upholding the old traditions.' How does the story illustrate this fact? Did the characters mould themselves or adhered to old traditions? With close reference to the story, explain the statement.

 4. 'The Tale of Melon City illustrates the fact that a half- witted ruler brings about the downfall of the empire.' How does the plot of the poem explain this statement?Briefly explain the plot and mention some themes of the poem.

 5. 'The Address is a representation of the time when society went through devastation not only in terms of things but also human emotions.'  What do you infer from this statement? Elucidate the statement in your own words with close relation to the story.

1.One sentence about the story/play/poem and the author

For instance, The Address is a story written by Marga Minco. 

2. One sentence giving the gist or summary of the story/play/poem.

For instance, The Address is a story where the narrator loses her mother during war. Later, she returns to the address in order to reclaim her mother's belongings. 

3. Explain the statement given as a clue and some instances-

      The given statement means that the world war was a time when destruction happened in the life  of           people and it also disturbed them emotionally.

 4.     Give some examples or instances -

We can understand this through the character of the narrator who is Mrs. S Daughter. She was undergoing emotional trauma and suffering as she lost her mother and her belongings. Some important instances that show her suffering are that she revisits the address to get her belongings. Moreover, she was also very  desperate to get the belongings but later on she lost interest in them as she found them in an unfamiliar place and setting. 

         5. Conclusion/ themes/ central idea or message asked.

In conclusion, the address is a story that depicted human suffering. The people lost not only their belongings but also valuable people.

 'The Address' is a story written by Marga Minco.It is a story where the narrator loses her mother during war. Later, she returns to the address( House No. 46, Marconi Street, Mrs. Dorlings Residence) in order to reclaim her mother's belongings.The statement means that the world war was a time when destruction happened in the life of people and it also disturbed them emotionally.

 We can understand this through the character of the narrator who is the daughter of Mrs. S. She was undergoing emotional trauma and suffering as she lost her mother and her belongings. Some important instances that show her suffering are that she revisits the address to get her belongings. Moreover, she was also very desperate to get the belongings but later on she lost interest in them as she found them in an unfamiliar place and setting. In conclusion, the address is a story that depicted human suffering. The people lost not only their belongings but also valuable people.
