Raintree 3 Every Time I Climb a Tree

Summary: Every Time I Climb a Tree
Every Time I Climb a Tree is a poem by David McCord.
This is a fun poem all about a child climbing a tree. The poem describes what it
is like to climb a tree. It tells us what the little boy sees from the tree when he
gets to the top.
He skins his knees. He gets his clothes ripped. He dodges bees. The poet likes
being out with nature and the tree puts him closer to birds and bees and ants.
The bees and the ants say, “Where have you been?” when climbs up the tree.
The speaker feels “free” when climbing trees because nothing stops him from
seeing many things. He likes to “spot a nest that has an egg or maybe three”. He
likes the view from the tree with the rooftops and fields and farms. According to
the speaker, all the things he sees are worth the scrapes and tears.
This poem is short and easy to read. The topic of the poem is of interest to
children. This poem has a lot of repetition and rhyming that adds to its rhythm.
The speaker repeats "every time I climb a tree" to show that he climbs a lot of
trees.

I think, he might not be the best boy in school
But for me, he is totally cool.
