Raintree 3 Unit 1: LOST AND FOUND - SUMMARY

Unit 1: LOST AND FOUND - SUMMARY

Lost and Found is a story about how Olly Owl finds an egg and returns it to its

owner. The animals in the wood, Tammy Toad, Mandy Mole and Barry Badger

want to have it, but Olly refuses to let them have the egg. While they are talking

about it, they hear a strange tapping sound from inside the egg. This frightens

the animals. Just then, the mighty Erma Eagle comes swishing down and tells

them that it is her egg. A strong wind had blown it off its nest. Soon, the egg

cracks open and a baby eagle comes out. Erma is now worried how she will

carry her baby back to the nest. Olly has an idea. He sits on Erma’s back with

the baby. Erma, then flies safely to its nest. All the animals are happy that the

baby eagle is safe.

Through the story, we learn that Olly Owl is clever and helpful. Barry Badger

makes us laugh. He seems to be very brave in the beginning, but it is funny

when he gets frightened of the egg. We feel sad for Erma Eagle. She is a strong

bird, but she loves her baby and worries for it.
